lol guys, nice job on SIBF :D although we didn't get the results we wanted, 2nd place is still awesome :D and we're still a integral part of the band, and it's pretty awesome to know that despite so many of us being there, our batch contributed part of that Gold we heard on results day.

exchange was awesome! and yeah well school IS pretty empty without going for band. went to tuition to make up for the sessions i missed when i went for band prac everyday in SIBF week on Monday and Wednesday, and you don't know how weird it felt not being in band on a Monday. next year, i think we should put a sign outside the bandroom that says "HOME". of course, done before. hehehe. we're just gonna bring it back man.

We did it! SIBF GOLD! Enjoy the fruits of our labour while we still can after all our sacrifices of blood, sweat and tears. I believe all of you at the results announcement would have felt the overwhelming emotions. Everyone was screaming and well... indescribable feelings of joy.

Sick....
(Today)
Still sick but feeling the sinking feeling that this might be the only time we could ever have felt THAT together while we all couldn't contain it. The only thing that kept me going to school over the past weeks was that there would be band pracs after it all, a time when I could feel at ease and be able to enjoy whatever I had. Now that SIBF is over, school is now empty again, with nothing that I used to look forward to.

Ahh I should stop raving and get some rest. Hope to see you all at the exchange if I'm well enough =X

ok....so the blog is really dead....
anyway, i shall just post this for the sake
of anyone who might still read this thing..

well,i finally witnessed the kind of magic
that bands like ours were reputated to have.
Friday we had really lousy attendance, and
we received the news of low ticket sales..
all seemed to be ending....

satrday,the atendance was pretty good, everyone
put in their best effort...some 120% or more...
we saw a drastic difference on saturday....it
was magical, we were playing together,lesser
wrong notes, though tuning was still bad....
For once, i actually felt that the 8h practice
was realy short,and i was enjoying myself....

we had a rest on sunday, and monday was
staff-training day, so we had ful day band prac
,it was awesome!!!And it was really monday's
practice that backed up my courage to advertise
my tickets to my friends and tell them that
it would be a really wonderful performance....

anyway,i sold 5 tickets from mon to tues......
and that was kinda fast....compared to my
previous record of 5 tickets in 2 weeks......
anyway...i hope that the attendence would
be really great.......gonna enjoy myself on
stage!!!!!!

Hi everyone,this is haocheng.i know tat most of you will not access this blog anymore but I still want to write.hope tat after the talk by our seniors,you guys would feel inspired.its just about using every second of band prac efficiently and wisely.try to improve on your playing and take case of dynamics and tuning and things like that.its simple,really.if we start now,we can still meet the target we(at least some of us)set for ourselves......im uploading this on phone,so the language might be a little crappy...thats about it,not to forget our juniors which will be playing next year with us

Okay I think I found the piece we can use for investiture.

Isn't too hard, we have enough players, and it only takes 2 percs.
Oh except clarinet 1 has some amazing parts at the end.Amazingly difficult 4 bars.

It's called "World Theme - Final Fantasy VII" (This version is exactly what we're gonna play except it's a very old MIDI theme. If you follow the music with the scores you'll see it's exactly same.)

Front part is a bit dull though.

Another demonstration of the song except it's orchestral.And somewhat different.

****before reading the post, i wanted to uploaded disco party III recordings on the e group........this is the only piece which i could find........hope that it is useful......................

Ok....so um.....rj got GOLD..........is that suppose to be good or bad?i suppose it just mark the end of their syf journey................i hope Mr Oura will not feel disappointed or wateva........

well.....only 5 of our batchmates turned up.....attendance was bad.....but anyway,compared to sec3s we were better......zzz....cuz we got more hardcore members^^i suppose.......0.o?

but then......non of us got the chance to watch them perform....................cuz the tickets ran short.......
it was really a great act by those who gave up their chance to watch rj play so that the others could hav a chance to enter....though what u guys did was just to follow seniors' instructions........................

anyway.....i feel screwed..........i dont believe that i could achieve the 3.6 now...............and my holiday plans are settled......27thMay go back china.........until 23th june come back............so i guess i will miss most of the holiday pracs......that sucks........but well then.....too bad......its almost time to say goodbye to the wonderful record of 100% attendance which i have been keeping.........

hi guys, haocheng here.
as you guys are reading this,(morning,1st may2009)
i wound be practicing and reflecting on my mistakes.
hope that after you guys read this,you guys wound
buck up and work harder....in the clever way,wif your
brains....or we no ned stay in RIMB anymore..........
ppl in RIMB put in the effort wif their brains working
at the same time.........

it is really sad to see our conductor,Mr Oura and our
seniors being so sad.........isnt it?Mr Oura conducted
RIMB for 20+years,since he was 20+?half of his life
time and most likely all his hard work and effort and
time had been put into this band.The band is just like
his child,he watch the band grow,and improve and
everything............and it is really sad for him to see
this child of his to be in this state that we r in now...
isnt it?

our seniors,it is really hard on them.....being the leading
batch which broke the 'legecy' of golds..........they want
that to happen?They din and that was the reason for
them being harsh on some of us...in fact...it is not really
harsh.........according to kirk.....they had worse last time.

So guys,for Mr Oura,for our seniors,for the band,for the
school,for our teachers in charge,and lastly,for our own
honour,our pride and our sense of achievement!Cuz we
will be seniors in 4months time and we would the the
people our juniors look up to.

We must work hard;work smart,we are not only cca mates,
we are not only batch mates,we are not even brothers,we
are more than that!We are a whole,everyone is vital and if
any of us were not on form,the whole batch suffers.For that,
pls guys,if you hav any problems,just talk to us,any one of us
we would be more than happy to listen to you.

Liangpu,im sorry that i always held a wrong impression of
you since sec1,though i never showed it.......i want to tell you
something,that is:we are together,all the time,everyone is
there to support oneanother.One for all;All for one.
You hav anything on ur mind,just look for us.

pls,giv a little more attention to band,just spare a bit of your
personal time and study time and slack time and what ever.
i dont even play FPS games now though i am deep into them.
and my results arnt good too.....but when it is band,i come
for every practise and i willl make the wffort to concentrate
on the music i am suppose to play and forget abt how tiring
the day was and how much homework i have on that day and
how many lousy results did i get and how many scoldings from
my subject teachers and stuff....
i would just concentrate on band,only band,nothing else........
anything other than band....leave till practise over.................

though we r in such a sorry state now.............that doesnt mean
that we r doomed......we could make the difference,we r not sec4
but hu set the rule that only sec4s could make the important
difference?we cant just watch the sec4s and 3s struggle,we hav
to do our best to try to help by playing better,so that we could lift
a bit of the burdens they have on their shoulders.

We still hav another 1year+ before we reach the point whr our fate
would be decided.....the next SYF.....if we could redeem our selves
depended on it....and we only hav 1year+....not still hav 1year+.....
its ONLY!!!!!

some of us never try,or never try hard enough......then they giv up,
saying that they could not do it,they cant,.....wateva.....this is not true
not true at all!
I share this example wif u guys arh...just now,i was wif liangpu
walking down the mrt station,then the train arrive and we though that
we couldnt make it.....but we decided to run for it and we managed to
board it before the doors close..........see this?we din noe that we could
do it......we tried our best and we succedded,if we though that we
couldnt and we just let it go.....then we would hav to wait for 5 more min
for the next one.......u get me?

though it may seem impossible,believe me....it is possible!
IT IS POSSIBLE!!!!!!do your very best and we can make the difference,
we could giv RIMB a gold wif honours ! we can!!!!!!!

i am a person who dont like to giv up,if i dont fight to the last second,it wont
be me............i always run for the MRT at kranji station in the morning after
taking the bus there from my house....sometimes i got in,some times i din,
but what is really important here is that,got in or not,we all do our best.
In our band 's case......i dont see why we could not get the gold wif honours
in 1year+ time.............

Is gonna be our first Investiture performance without much help like last year.

OKAY.

Hao Cheng's been demanding a post. So I'm gonna give the whole batch a post. (Okay I bet many of you don't see the relationship but I don't care.) xD

Haha well I just got a few things to say lah.

SYF is just a huge learning journey, If i've learnt anything its to do longer rolls when it comes to percussion intros. xD
And Hao Cheng, if we do work hard enough as a batch we might be able to play Flight Of the Bumblebee by Secondary 4. Its a hard task, but if we work together we CAN DO IT!
SYF has pulled us closer together as a band, definitely. Before SYF practices began I can say I was only bonded with my section to a certain extent. Now I'm even more bonded with my section.
I rather have got silver with a band of brothers than a gold with honours playing with a band of people who hate each other.
Let's STOP EMO-ING ABOUT THIS SYF (if some of you are still out there.)
Next SYF, We'll be leading the band, WE CANNOT DWELL ON THIS!(:

Yeah, that's pretty much all I want to say. Oh yeah, one final thing.

The reasons which we should work very hard to improve:
(in no order of importance)

FOR MR OURA! Who spend so much time with us,encouraged us and helped us and many many more...
FOR RAFFLES INSTITUTION,the school which we loved,which is our second home,we must bring glory to our school.
FOR RIMB AND OUR COUNTLESS SENIORS...(basically anyone who was in RIMB before is our senior...) maybe their consecutive gold has been broken,but we must not let them down....though we all noe that we played very well today.........i seriously dono what the judges want ......
MRS TAN,MS KEK AND MR JEE---they had spend a lot of effort on us and we shouldnt disapoint them....

Hi Guys!

I post here for the first time! xD

This post is probably quite late, but I was thinking about this..

Let's try and count how much we have practised:

Nov/Dec Holidays: 11 5-hour pracs if I’m not wrong? That is 55 hours.

Saturdays: From 28th February I think – which is 5 Saturdays (that’s it?!). Multiplied by 4 hours each plus 3 hours yesterday = total of 23 hours.

Normal Prac: 12 weeks so far this year. 3 times a week, about 3 hours each. Total 36 times = 108 hours

Extra Prac: I’ve been coming dutifully on most Tuesdays and Thursdays xD Say I came for 20 extra pracs and stayed for an average of 2 hours each. That makes 40 hours.

March Hols: My estimate is that we practised for 9 hours (?) during band camp plus 5 hours on Friday of the March holidays. That makes 13 hours.

55 + 23 + 108 + 40 + 13 = 239 hours of practice!!

Hey guys, we have practised for two hundred and thirty nine hours!!! Blood, sweat, tears and painful lips from super-tight embouchure all included!

So let's make our efforts pay off and do our best tomorrow! =D RIMB FTW!!

Tomorrow's the day.

The day we've been waiting and practicing for since last october.

Maybe I'm not really in a position to talk about who got cut because I can't get cut. But to all of you who got cut, I know how it feels to be told not to play something, when you've been practicing it for so long, so hard. It really sucks. But what I've got to say: Whatever part you're playing, do your best and make sure you make our audience enjoy it.

Well...there's 3 days left til our performance.

I know this has been said many many times, but i'll say it again, don't feel guilty when you're cut for some parts of the pieces.

From what i heard, it seems almost impossible for us sec 2s not to get cut AT ALL unless we are some imba pro that can play the song ALMOST perfectly (maybe jerome could have done it but he left =\). This excludes percs xD.

I mean, who hasn't been cut at all for both pieces?
(it's really a question)

Anyways, right now hard work is... not helping any much more. What we need to do now is FOCUS. Feel the music. PLAY TOGETHER. Perfect the parts we are playing.

Hi guys...

i think that after the exchange ,many of us realised that what we have done is far from enough.We had improved........A lot but we can still do better,you guys dont want to feel guilty for not doing your best rit?

i personally believe that what we lack is a bit of passion/love for the music we play,like Mr oura had said,we play to entertain people,to make the people feel what we feel in the music.so if we just play the pieces with a bit more emotion and feeling(not to mention tuning.....im now working hard on my tuning so that there will not be UFOs from all over the universe attracted to the band room.)then i think we could make a very big difference in our music.

i suppose that all i wanted to say.

I think our playing is quite good (actually damn good if you compare to,er,when we first got Fledermaus)

Monday is the day where we will perform in front of a quite pro school band (o_o) and 3 girls' schools (O_O).Try our best!

And also please note that we're like at least 1/3 of the band for now,and with the sec 1s looking up to us(like both literally and figuratively.we're performing on stage or not? eh wait is the stage big enough ._.)we should play our best,at the very least this once.

It's just how much effort you put into things,for example just how much effort you put into something as trivial as a bang(drills).

Most of all,don't forget to do homework.I know it sux to have homework for holidays.

Today was not something that everyone wanted. But even though I'm not kirk, I think it's high time everyone started recognizing the urgency of the hour, the urgency of the situation. Do you know how irritating it is when I'm just sitting in the back and sitting down, and dozing off? When people can't play instruments they're making time tick away, not only for that practice but also the time left for SYF. You heard what Mr. Oura said. I don't think anyone would want to be in that standard right now.

What Kirk said during fall in was right, and what kirk did was also right. Mostly, what we can take away from it:

"there's a month left for SYF.

we don't want to be the ones breaking the tradition.

we should. we must. we can. we will.

That's exactly what goes into my head when I screw up doing practice, and that's what I think about on my way home. I actually feel my hands trembling when it comes to the last part of overture, the last snare drum solo after K. How many of you actually feel scared during scared during concert? If everyone practiced like they had no life, just for those 30 minutes, or those 4 hours on friday, we could be more then what we are right now in a matter or 3 practices. Wait, scratch that. One practice is enough for us to have a changed mindset, because right now only half the people in band have a serious attitude about SYF. Start making sacrifices if you're not making any. If you have something clashing with band, come for band. That's why there've been many instances when either me or kelvin call for batch meeting. We want to pump you guys up, make our first SYF worth remembering.

This is the only SYF where will be working as juniors, when the next SYF comes we'll be secondary 4s. Let's learn. Let's do this, we most definitely can.

I think concert was pretty good today.

Mr.Oura didnt scold us a lot.He was in a rather good mood throughout the concert(amazingly 6hours),so i guess concert was good =).

Our batch's attendance was...okay i guess.Quite normal.

Okay this Friday please stay back 10mins for batch meeting we actually have...something important to discuss.Like seriously.

Im not even sure if ashley has quitted. and that goes for jerome too.
such a complex world with such a complex affair.
im not even sure if i can attend pracs on saturday. Arjun knows why. its related to my RE but im not going to go details.
Ran 4 rounds during band today so that i didnt have to do scales. guess its worth it. (as in for me cause my scales not dat good ya know)
And guys stop laughing at the percs just because what happened on wed (20/2). Chiraag might not care but try to think about arjun's feelings. Hes the kind of enthu guy who would readily prac even if theres no one watching over him. Its not fair to him you know. Perhaps u guys dunno what it feels like to be really screwed like the percs or the horns. But ur turn will come

LOL.Like,really.

Today i was on the MRT(after band),carrying my clarinet case,then had this random thought.It really does.

Saw some people staring at my case for awhile too haha.Maybe just coincidence.

Just remember not to leave your cases on the floor in MRTs since
1-You might forget them
2-This will cause some mess since everyone would think it's a bomb
3-and because of that they eventually discover that the instrument is from our school and you know what happens after that...

Okay, hi everyone!!:D

After performing operation here comes the new skin:D Hope you guys like it lah.

Okay, well guys this ain't meant to be discouraging, but today I was walking past Bishan Park Secondary and Pierce Secondary, and I heard their band practicing. I live near these schools, so yeah. It's loud enough for me to hear them practicing during sectionals. Yeah, you know how it sounded like. It kinda sounded better than us, I could hear the snare drummer practicing as well. To tell you the truth, I was quite ashamed la. Let's work harder. From where I stand in the band room we sound great, but then I don't have a trained ear like Mr Oura to spot all the mistakes and what nots. So we're doing good, it sounds nice, but let's put in that extra effort , put in our best and make it sound even better. Like Kirk said, "Monday: Wonderful, Wednesday: Wonderful, Friday: Work hard." So let's do that, eventually when we get our prize we'll know that we tried our very best to get that.

Yeah, that's about it(: EVERYONE OKAY WITH BATCH OUTING DURING MARCH HOLIDAYS??

Well as you can see,this will be the new blog for RIMB batch of 2011.

As you might remember,we met with some tragedy with the previous blog,so we shall be more careful with this brand new blog.
